Louisiana used to let everyone vote for anyone in the first round of elections. It didn't matter what party you picked when you signed up to vote. Anyone who received at least 51% of the vote would be declared the winner with no runoff necessary.
Starting in April 2026, Democrats can only vote for Democrats, and Republicans can only vote for Republicans in the primaries.
This is not the only change. There is also the Louisiana v. Callais court case, and based on the outcome, lawmakers might redraw voting maps.
If you're one of Louisiana's 200,000+ Black voters registered as "No Party," you MUST choose a side or lose your voice in who makes it to November.
